Meet Jackson – A Gentle Soul Looking for His Forever Home Jackson is FIV positive, but please don't let that stop you from considering this precious boy. He does not experience symptoms as some FIV cats do, and many FIV-positive cats live long, happy lives. They can safely live with FIV-negative cats and share litter boxes, food, and water bowls. I also add L-Lysine paste to his food to help support his immune system. There is a lot of good information available about FIV, and it is not a death sentence. Many FIV cats never show symptoms at all. FIV Positive Cat Information Jackson has been through a lot and has come out the other side a beautiful, sweet boy. He is around 5 years old. His face and eyes look a little sad, but he is truly a happy cat—he just has a naturally grumpy-looking expression. His ears are crinkled from years of untreated ear mites and infections (now resolved), and one ear may never stand up again. When he arrived, one eye was squinty and required a small procedure on his inner eyelid. The tissue was tested and found to be nothing concerning. He now has a tiny scar and a slight squint, which only adds to his charm. He reminds me of Clint Eastwood—tough-looking on the outside, but inside he's a total marshmallow. Jackson is shy at first, but will come out to see if you have pets and wet food. Once he trusts you, he becomes very affectionate and loves cuddles. He is gentle, sweet-natured, and calm. His coat does mat easily, so regular brushing is important—every other day at minimum, daily is best. When he first came to us, he had severe mats and had to be shaved under sedation. As long as he is brushed, his coat stays fluffy and beautiful. His fur is currently growing back and is incredibly soft. Jackson enjoys quiet places and loves hiding in cozy spots like laundry baskets in the closet. He sleeps on the bed and uses a cardboard scratcher instead of furniture. His litter box habits are perfect, and he isn't picky about litter. He is currently in my teenager's room and gets lots of brushing and attention. Jackson is on a special diet due to stress-related urinary crystals and blood in his urine. Because of this, he should be the only pet or live with a calm, gentle companion. A quieter home would be ideal, as loud or busy environments cause him to retreat. He eats urinary + calm food (Science Diet or Royal Canin) wet and dry food. While it might be a little expensive, it is needed to keep Jackson healthy! Jackson is quiet—I've only heard him meow once! He does not like being picked up for long, but he loves being petted, brushed, and rubbed on your legs. Once he comes to you for attention, he becomes very affectionate and silly. He is a Grade A snuggler and loves sleeping on the bed. He would do well with older or gentle children and in a calm household. Because of his past trauma, younger children would need supervision to ensure they are gentle with him. He would also be wonderful for a senior person, though care should be taken since he likes to rub against legs. Jackson truly feels like an old soul. He has so much love to give and deserves a peaceful home where he can feel safe and cherished. He has come so far from the cat who had given up when we first got him. Now he is a happy, well-rounded boy ready for his forever family. Is Jackson the cat for you?
